Future water polo stars compete in 16 and under National Club Championships in Montreal

Water Polo Canada is proud to welcome 31 teams and over 400 young water polo athletes from across Canada at the 16 and under National Club Championships starting Thursday, May 29 and running until Sunday, June 1 in two Montreal-area venues.

The boys’ National Championship is hosted by the CAMO water polo club and will be held at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard (1000 Avenue Émile-Journault, Montréal, QC). The games, featuring 17 different teams, are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9:15 p.m., Thursday to Saturday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Among several games of interest, the St-Lambert and CAMO Blanc boys’ will face off at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday for a chance to play 2013 champions Calgary Torpedoes in game 14, Saturday. Opening ceremonies will unfold at 5:30 p.m. on May 29 and, on June 1, the boys’ bronze medal game will be played at 12:30 p.m. and the Championship game at 5:30 p.m.

On the girls’ side, the action between the 14 participating teams, including 2013 champion CAMO White, will be happening at the new and stunning Côte-Saint-Luc Aquatic Centre (5794 Parkhaven Avenue, Côte Saint-Luc, QC). The competition will start at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday with the Toronto Mavericks facing the St-Lambert squad and will run continuously that day until the 5:20 p.m. opening ceremonies. Games will then immediately resume with host Dollard Black facing CAMO Bleu. On Sunday, June 1, the girls’ bronze medal game is set for 3:00 p.m. and the gold medal game will conclude the tournament at 4:20 p.m.

The National Club Championships are the premier annual water polo events for clubs across Canada. Several of the young players in action over this weekend will go on to represent Canada on national team programs over the next few years.
