Water Polo Canada salutes decision to proclaim 2015 as Year of Sport in Canada

(Ottawa – October 16, 2014)
– 2015 was further positioned as a landmark year for Canadian sport, when the Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston and The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport) made an announcement alongside the Canadian Olympic Committee and proclaimed 2015 the Year of Sport in Canada, today, during a ceremony on Parliament Hill.

This significant announcement eloquently demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to sport at all levels and highlights sport’s contribution to individuals and communities across the country.

“We feel like this news could not have come at a better time, when the eyes of the world are about to be set on Canada during the Summer 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto,” said Water Polo Canada’s Executive Director, Martin Goulet.

“This special and timely recognition of the importance of sport in Canada will surely enhance and support the exciting sporting events that are on the calendar for next year. We more than welcome this great initiative from the Government of Canada.The water polo community is already looking forward to partaking in the celebrations,” said Goulet.

Various events and activities will take place over the course of the year to display the many benefits and contributions of sport for Canadians.
