World League Intercontinental Tournament: Canada plays for bronze

(Montreal, Sportcom) – The Canadian women's water polo team completed the preliminary round of the intercontinental tournament of the World League in fine fashion, winning 14-7 over Brazil on Saturday night in Lewisville. With their three wins and two losses, the Canadians have secured a spot in the top-4 of the preliminary tournament and earned their spot in the league’s Super Final to be played in China in June.
"It's good to qualify, but we still want to finish the tournament on a high note," said team captain Krystina Alogbo about the requirement for the Canadians to have one final matchup on Sunday.

The Brazilians did not stand to much in the way of the Canadian women during this game. "It pretty much went well from the first to last whistle. We respected our game plan. We played as a team and did what we had to do," summed up the Montrealer.
Friday, the Canadians had an appointment with the dominant American squad. The Olympic champions and world champions made of display of strength in front of the Canadians, taking the game 14-4.
"We started the game pretty intensely and aggressively. We still had a good physical, disciplined match in hand in the first quarter, but the second period escaped us,” said Alogbo.
During the first half of the clash, the Americans scored a total of 11 points. "We then managed to control the second part of the match much better. Our opponents only registered three goals."
The Canadians cross swords with the Chinese on Sunday morning for the bronze medal. Thursday, the game between the two teams was a very tight. The Canadians finally edged out the opponent 15-14.
"China has a very good team. We see this as an opportunity to do further work on the elements we know we must improve on to perform consistently. Anything to make us ready for our next tournament where Olympic tickets will be at stake."
