The Water Polo Canada (WPC) Athletes' Council Election was held from November 10-24, 2016. Two positions were up for election: Chair and one Athlete Representative. All current carded members of WPC, or athletes who were carded members and retired less than five years ago, were eligible to vote in the election.
WPC received a total of three nominations, all for the open Athlete Representative position. As there were no nominees for the position of Chair, Carmen Eggens will continue to serve as Interim Chair until the end of her term in November 2017.
Carmen filling the role of Interim Chair opened up a second Athlete Representative position. According to the WPC Athletes' Council Terms of Reference, there must be a minimum of two men and two women on the Council at any given time. Therefore, as the only female nominee, Shae Fournier was acclaimed to one of the available Athlete Representative positions. The single remaining position was then filled via an online election between two current Senior Men's National Team Program athletes: David Lapins and Dusan Radojcic. The man who received the most votes was elected to the Athletes' Council.
The President of WPC then assigned roles to each member of the Athletes' Council, and appointed one individual to the position of Vice-chair. Council members and their roles are listed below:
Carmen Eggens - Interim Chair; Liaison to the Women's Junior and Youth National Team Program athletes (term ends 2017)
Shae Fournier - Liaison to Senior Women's National Team Program athletes; Liaison to the female WPC athletes associated with NCAA or professional leagues (term ends 2018)
