Women’s National Team program announces roster for the 4th FINA World Youth Championships

(Belgrade, Serbia, August 24, 2018) - Water Polo Canada’s coaching staff has announced the final 13-player roster for the 2018 FINA World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships that will take place August 27 – September 2, 2018, in Belgrade, Serbia.

The 18U Canadian Women’s Team left Montreal on August 5th, 2018 to attend different camps and competitions in Hungary. The Canadian women have been training in Budapest for the last two weeks in preparation for the Youth World Championships. Team Canada will be looking to improve upon an 11th place finish from the 2016 event in Auckland, New Zealand.

After three weeks of intense training in Europe, Head Coach Daniel Bekhazi is looking forward to the tournament “Our training so far has been very productive. These young women have had the opportunity to train in a great location against some of the best in the world. This group has come a long way together, and we are all excited to showcase the hard work that we have done. I believe that if these athletes play hard and stay composed, we can have a lot of success at the World Championships. With passion and hard work, anything is possible.”

Canada is set to compete in Group A with Spain, Serbia, and Italy at the FINA Youth World Championships. The Canadian women will start the tournament against Italy, August 27 at 9:00 am local/ 3:00 am EDT. The event will be live streamed on FINA TV (subscription needed).

  • August 29 vs Serbia, 6:00 pm local 12:00 pm ET

  • September 1 vs TBD (Semifinals)
  • September 2 vs TBD (Finals)


The Youth World Championship will serve as a test event for the new proposed rules by FINA earlier this year. These new rules include different amendments to existing rules on substitutions, corner throws and timeout protocols among others.
