Canada Takes 14th Position at World Aquatics Men's U20 Water Polo Championship

mercredi 25 juin 2025

Ottawa, June 25, 2025 - Water Polo Canada’s Men’s U20 National Team took the 14th position at the World Aquatics Men's U20 Water Polo Championship held June 14-21 in Zagreb, Croatia.

The Canadian team started their round robin in Group F with a 20-6 win over Singapore, followed by a 13-12 loss against China.

This loss pushed Canada to play its three next round robin games with teams in Group H, which the team all won, 17-11 against Colombia, 15-11 against Kazakhstan, and 21-10 against South Africa.

In the final game for classification, Canada loss 17-8 against Brazil.

“Unfortunately, it was not the result we were looking for”, said Water Polo Canada’s Men’s U20 National Team Head Coach Pat Oaten. “We will have to carefully analyse where we’re at as we move forward. The effort was there, but we simply couldn’t put things together when it was needed.”

“It was not the result we were hoping for at Junior World Championships”, added Team Captain Leo Hachem. “A tough way to end it—especially knowing it was the last time in the water together for some of us. Still, we’re proud of the journey we shared and honoured to have represented the maple leaf on the international stage.”

Spain won the gold medal, followed by USA and the host nation, Croatia.
