Water Polo Canada announces the 2024 NCL Senior League champions and individual award winners

The 2024 Senior Men’s and Women’s National Champions are the Calgary Torpedoes and Calgary Renegades, respectively

Ottawa, May 15, 2024 - Water Polo Canada announces the winners of its National Championship League (NCL) 2024 Senior League individual awards following the conclusion of the Senior National Championships event on Sunday May 12 in Calgary, AB

Following three days of competition, Water Polo Canada’s 2024 Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s National Champions were crowned, the Calgary Torpedoes and Calgary Renegades, respectively.

The Senior National Championships was attended by five women’s and eight men’s teams. These teams consisted of the top teams from each conference, East and West, following a series of regular season events and a qualification event, which started back in December.

Here are the final rankings of the Senior National Championships:

• Senior National Championships Most Valuable Player: Kevin Graham (Calgary, AB-Calgary Torpedoes)
• Regular Season Top Goal Scorer: Giancarlo Marquez (Port Moody, B.C.-Pacific Storm)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Player: Aria Soleimanipak (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC-Laval)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Defensive Player: Ion Diacenco (Côte-Saint-Luc, QC-CAMO 2)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Goalie: Aleksandr Berezutskii (Montréal, QC-CAMO 1)
• Most Valuable Coach: Matt Constantin (Calgary, AB-Calgary Torpedoes)

Women
• Senior National Championships Most Valuable Player: Kelly McKee (Calgary, AB-Calgary Renegades)
• Regular Season Top Goal Scorer: Makayla Ulmer-Lutudromu (Regina, SK-Team Sask)

• Regular Season Most Valuable Defensive Player: Natalia Blazevic (Vancouver, B.C.-Pacific Storm)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Goalie: Serena Bredin (Calgary, AB-Calgary Renegades)
• Most Valuable Coach: Cyril Dorgigné (Regina, SK-Team Sask)

Except for the “Regular Season Top Goal Scorer” awards, all individual award winners were selected following a vote by the team coaches present at the 2024 Senior National Championships.

The Senior National Championships are part of Water Polo Canada National Championship League (NCL), which was created in 2014 to bring the domestic club age group programs under a country wide umbrella that promotes the development of the sport. The NCL offers three categories of play: Senior, 17U, and 15U.
