(Lima, Peru - August 8, 2019) – Canada had a strong quarterfinal showing to record a 22-3 win against Venezuela and move to the semi-final at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The Canadian women had an impressive start, jumping to an 8-0 lead after the first quarter. A hat-trick from Krystina Alogbo in the second quarter helped Canada show a 12-2 advantage at halftime. The Canadian women never looked back and took control of the match and finally confirmed their spot in the semi-final.

"I'm satisfied with how the team played today. We followed our game plan; we wanted to start with a lot of intensity, and that's what we did. After that, we worked on different plays and scenarios, which calmed the game a bit, but this was our objective. We are ready for our semi-final tomorrow. We have been working hard all week, match after match, to prepare for this game. At this point in the tournament, we are in a good position, both physically and tactically." commented David Paradelo, Head Coach of the Women's National Team.

The Canadian attack was dominant once again, taking advantage of several counterattack and power-play opportunities, allowing all ten players to score at least one goal. Krystina Alogbo totaled five goals in the game while Emma Wright, Joelle Bekhazi and Shae Fournier each netted three for the Canucks.

The Canadian women's team will face Brazil in the semi-final tomorrow (August 9) at 11:00 am local time / 12:00 pm ET. The United States will play Cuba in the other semi-final.
