Statement from Water Polo Canada regarding Team Canada’s decision

(March 23, 2020 – Ottawa, ON) - On Sunday, Team Canada released a statement announcing its decision not to send Canadian teams to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the summer of 2020 due to COVID-19 risks. The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) also called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to postpone the Games for one year.

“Water Polo Canada welcomes and supports the decision taken by Team Canada. While these are challenging times for our athletes and our community, the COVID-19 pandemic is larger than sport, and we must do our part to support the process. The health and safety of our athletes and their communities are of utmost importance. Water Polo Canada applauds the leadership shown by the COC and the CPC in this matter and offers its continued support with the next steps .” - Conrad Hadubiak, Water Polo Canada President
