New board members appointed following Water Polo Canada's Annual General Meeting

(Ottawa, ON – June 17, 2020) – Water Polo Canada is pleased to welcome three new members and two returning members to its Board of Directors. The Board composition was confirmed following the election at the 2020 Water Polo Canada Virtual Annual General Meeting held on June 14, 2020. Five positions (Vice-President and four directors) were to be filled at this year's election.

Ms. Josée Lanouette from Quebec was acclaimed to her third term as Vice-President of the Water Polo Canada Board of Directors. Ms. Lanouette has been serving on the WPC Board since 2011, and her current term will run until June 2022.

Four director positions were up for election, according to the Board's revolving schedule, Ms. Kathleen Dawson (Manitoba) was re-elected to the Board of Directors for her fourth term. Board Liaison to the Operations Council, Kathleen Dawson has also been of member of the Long-term Sustainability and Governance Committees. Lately, she has dedicated time to the Database Working Group to ensure the database meets the needs of PSOs and Clubs.

Additionally, three new directors were elected to the WPC Board of Directors. Ms. Donna Atkinson from Victoria, British Columbia, joins the WPC Board of Directors. Throughout her career, Ms. Atkinson has gained considerable experience in not-for-profit governance, community and economic development, as well as communication and strategic planning. Formerly the CEO of Rowing Canada, Ms. Atkinson, also worked at the City of Victoria and acted as the Executive Director of Alberta Water Polo Association early in her career. Her vast knowledge of the Canadian Sport System and her experience at all decision levels will be truly valuable to the WPC Board of Directors.

Mr. Frank Meunier from Sherbrooke, Quebec, is coming back to the Water Polo Canada Board of Directors after sitting for nearly ten years in the 2000s, including six years as President. With over 20 years of experience in amateur sports, Mr. Meunier brings a wide range of skills that will be beneficial to the WPC Board. He has been involved with many sports organizations, including Freestyle Skiing Canada and Fencing Canada. He currently sits as a B Session Member at the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Mr. Geoff Schoenberg from Toronto, Ontario, is also joining the Board for a two-year term. Mr. Schoenberg's strong academic background, as well as his work as a senior consultant with Sport Australia, will offer a new perspective on sport policy, sport governance, and organizational legitimacy to the Water Polo Canada Board of Directors.

"I would like to congratulate Josée and Kathleen on their re-election and wish a warm welcome to our new members. Their knowledge of the Canadian sport system and their combination of skills and experience will be great assets to our Board. I look forward to working with them and the rest of the Board to provide support to the Canadian Water Polo Community during these difficult times and reach our strategic goals as an organization," said Water Polo Canada President Conrad Hadubiak.

Water Polo Canada would like to thank Mr. Jared Gillespie, Mr. Teddy Katz and Mr. Bill Meyer for their time and dedication to the Board of Water Polo Canada. "On behalf of Water Polo Canada, I want to thank Jared, Teddy and Bill, for their contributions to our organization. With their help, Water Polo Canada has made significant progress in terms of Governance, Risk Management, Strategic Communication and Alumni Relations. We certainly hope their expertise and experience will continue to benefit the Canadian water polo community in the future," added President Conrad Hadubiak.
