Water Polo Canada announces 2026 NCL Senior League champions and individual award winners

Thursday, April 16, 2026

Ottawa, April 16, 2026 — Water Polo Canada is pleased to announce the champions and individual award winners of the 2026 National Championship League (NCL) Senior season, following the conclusion of the Senior National Championships on Sunday, April 12 in Calgary, AB.

After three days of competition at a packed Calgary venue, the Calgary Torpedoes Black claimed the Senior Men’s national title, while the Calgary Renegades Black were crowned Senior Women’s national champions — a memorable double for the host city, supported by Tourism Calgary as the event’s host-city partner.

The Senior National Championships featured the top clubs from the East and West conferences, qualified through a series of regular season events and a qualification event that began in December.

A championship shaped by standout performances

CAMO’s Maxime Gallant was the story of the men’s bracket, leading all scorers with 27 goals across six games — a full six goals clear of the next-closest shooter — with a remarkable scoring percentage of 65.9%. Matthew Halajian (Calgary Torpedoes Black) and Nikola Pekovic (Pacific Storm) tied for second in the men’s goal-scoring race with 21 apiece.

On the women’s side, CAMO’s Jessica Beauchemin topped the tournament scoring chart with 19 goals, anchoring a CAMO attack that pushed the eventual champions to the final. Calgary Renegades Black’s defensive structure, led by Kelly McKee, and the in-goal performance of Touski’s Fanny Boutrouille were equally decisive in shaping the tournament’s outcome.

About the National Championship League

The Senior National Championships are part of Water Polo Canada’s National Championship League (NCL), which was created in 2014 to bring domestic club age-group programs under a country-wide umbrella that promotes the development of the sport. The NCL offers three categories of play: Senior, 18U, and 16U.

Water Polo Canada thanks Tourism Calgary, hosts Calgary Renegades and Calgary Torpedoes, officials, volunteers, and all participating athletes, coaches, and families for helping make the 2026 Senior National Championships a showcase of the sport at its highest domestic level.
