Transition Executive Joanne Mortimore joins Water Polo Canada

Friday, September 20, 2024

Ottawa, September 20, 2024 - Water Polo Canada (WPC) announced today that effective Monday, September 23, 2024, Joanne Mortimore, an experienced and longtime Canadian sports executive, will be joining Water Polo Canada to lead the organization’s operations until a full-time CEO is hired.

Joanne Mortimore brings more than two decades of experience in leadership roles with various Canadian sport organizations to WPC. She spent 20 years at Athletics Canada, where she was Director of Finance and Administration, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer. In 2010, she joined Own the Podium, where she was Director of Planning and Operations. In 2014, she moved on to the Conference Board of Canada as Vice President Operations and Chief Financial Officer, where her role included executive oversight of the Niagara Institute, and then to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, where she held the positions of Senior Director of Corporate Services and Finance and Senior Director of Finance.

In recent years, Joanne has continued her involvement with Canadian and international sport. She is currently a member of the Volleyball Canada Board of Directors, where she serves as Chair of that organization’s Finance and Audit Committee, and she is also an Executive Board Risk Committee Member with World Athletics.
