Jun. 15, 2021

Canada registered a brilliant win yesterday in its first official game in 18 months after defeating Russia 12-10 in its opening match of the FINA Women World League Super Final in Athens, Greece.

Right from the start, the Canadian women took control of the game pulling ahead of the Russian 5-1 in the first quarter. The Russian were able to charge back afterward but never enough to worry the Canadians. “After a long wait, we were finally able to play and test our new collective skills learned in the last year. Even with our good start to the game, I believe we can do better for the next part of the tournament” said Axelle Crevier after the game.

Gurpreet Sohi led the charge and won the Player of the game honor with 3 goals. Kelly Mckee and Monika Eggens each scored two. Finally, Shae La Roche, Axelle Crevier, Kyra Christmas, Elyse Lemay-Lavoie, Emma Wright also contributed each with a goal.

Claire Wright had the win for Canada.

Canada plays its second match this morning against Japan.
