Water Polo Canada introduces incoming Athletes' Council for 2022-2023

Montreal, January 20, 2021. Water Polo Canada introduces its incoming Athletes' Council for 2022-2023. 

The Athletes' Council is the collective voice of Water Polo Canada's high-performance athletes. Its role is to represent and promote the views of Youth, Junior and Senior National Team athletes in order to advance the goals of Water Polo Canada, its Board of Directors, staff, officials and coaches towards achieving best-ever performances, while ensuring the safety, wellbeing and welfare of all National Team Programs members. The contribution of this committee is undeniable in the pursuit of Water Polo Canada's goals of excellence.

“The Water Polo Canada Athletes' Council is an essential standing committee of the Board, supporting our goal of taking an athlete-centered approach to decision making. It is my sincere pleasure to work with these outstanding leaders. The Water Polo Canada Board and I are very grateful for the contributions of our outgoing members and we extend a warm welcome to the new members of the Council”, said Erin Lukie, WPC Board of Directors Liaison to the Athletes' Council.  

The new Athletes' Council for 2022-2023 will be composed of: 

  • Shae La Roche, Chair, 2022-2023
  • Bor Tanasijevic, 2022-2023
  • Matthew Halajian, 2022-2023
  • Kindred Paul, 2021-2022 

Tokyo 2020 Olympian and outgoing Vice-Chair Shae La Roche will take over Robin Randall's position as Chair of the Athletes' Council. “I would like to first thank Robin for his years of hard work and dedication to our Athletes' Council. He has set a standard of excellence that I will strive to maintain. I think we have a great council moving forward and I am excited to continue working with Erin Lukie, who has been absolutely instrumental in the success of this council”.

Robin Randall, who helped guide the Council through the pandemic, leaves with a feeling of pride in all that the Council has accomplished.  "I'm so proud to have done this work for the past three years on behalf of the Canadian heroes who represent us every day. Throughout the pandemic, the Council has been exceptionally fortunate in its members' commitment and passion. I am particularly grateful for the continued support from our Board Liaison, Erin Lukie, whose efforts have been essential in all our endeavors". 

The first official meeting of the incoming Athletes' Council will be in early 2022.
