CAMO 1 and Team Sask becomes the 2023 17U Men’s and Women’s National Finals Champions

Ottawa, May 31, 2023 - Water Polo Canada announces the winners of its Individual Awards following the 2023 NCL 17U National Finals which ended Saturday, May 27, in Calgary.

Following three days of competition, Water Polo Canada’s 2023 17U Men’s and Women’s National Finals Champions were crowned, CAMO 1 and Team Sask respectively. The 17U National Finals were attended by a total of eight women’s and eight men’s teams equally representing Western and Eastern Canada.

Here are all the individual award winners following the conclusion of the 2023 NCL 17U Men’s and Women’s National Finals event:

Men
• Most Valuable Player: Jason Joseph (Montréal, QC-CAMO 1)
• Most Valuable Defensive Player: Tate Falconer (Hamilton, ON-Mavericks Black)
• Most Valuable Goalie: Marko Todorovski (Mississauga, ON- Mavericks Black)
• Most Valuable Coach: Maxime Crevier (Montréal, QC-CAMO 1)

Women
• Most Valuable Player: Sydney Krushen (Regina, SK-Team Sask)
• Most Valuable Defensive Player: Natalia Blazevic (Vancouver, B.C.-Pacific Storm)
• Most Valuable Goalie: Alexandra Stoddard (Abbotsford, B.C.-Fraser Valley Water Polo Club)
• Most Valuable Coach: Sam Donoghue (Burnaby, B.C.-Pacific Storm)

All individual award winners were selected following a vote by the team coaches present at the 2023 17U National Finals.

The 17U National Finals are part of Water Polo Canada National Championship League (NCL), which was created in 2014 to bring the domestic club age group programs under a country wide umbrella that promotes the development of the sport. The NCL offers three categories of play: Senior, 17U, and 15U.

Team Sask winner of the NCL Club Cup
Following this event, Team Sask won the NCL Club Cup for a second year in a row.

The NCL Club Cup is awarded based on overall performance in the NCL, specifically to the Club who won the most championship events across all NCL age groups in a particular season.

Clubs receive 6 points for gold a medal at a National Event (15U Eastern/Western Championships, Senior Nationals and 17U National Finals), 4 points for a silver and 2 for a bronze and they also received 3 points for a gold medal at the Conference Championship Events, 2 points for a silver and 1 point for a bronze.
